Rob Davidson goes from part-time to full time Supply Alliance coordinator for WAMMCO next month and is already setting new targets - especially for the $7,000 Statewide lamb competition.

He is due to meet with the Katanning Agricultural Society and stock firm representatives at the end of March to discuss ways of boosting entries in the competition next year.

“WAMMCO kills around 250,000 lambs between August and December and we would like to be able to attract ten percent of those lambs into the annual competition,” Rob said. “This may involve categories other than the  26 kg carcase as well as other incentives to bring more producers on board.”

He said VIASCAN data would also be incorporated for the first time in this year’s competition.

Lambs entered were down to 7,401 this year from nearly 10,000 last year, although the number of entrants and the number of individual entries was similar to last year.

“We are keen to see not only a wider range of entries but also a better regional spread of producer interest,” Rob said.
