In January 2009, WAMMCO introduced a new carcase bonus scheme called ‘WAMMCO SELECT’ to further reward Co-operative members delivering high meat yielding lambs.  See news article for background.

This page describes the scheme in some more detail.

Carcases are assessed using Viascan imaging technology.  Each lamb carcase is assesses individually by determining the the lean meat yield (LMY) for the Leg and Loin portions,  These two values are added together to get the 'WAMMCO Select Yield'.

Qualification:

  1. Benchmarks were determined by analysing the the top 15% of all carcases sold to WAMMCO.  The benchmarks are currently 
    • 18-22kg : 33.9%
    • 22kg + : 33.0%
  2. Producer must be a Co-operative member
  3. Crossbred lambs only
  4. Lambs must be supplied on the Pool schedule or a W&G contract

Reward:

  • a 5% premium is paid on qualifying carcases

Since the introduction of WAMMCO Select in January 2009, more than 22 percent of lambs delivered to Katanning on the daily schedule, or under contract, had attracted the 5% premium.
