WAMMCO marks 15 years of east-coast processing

Fifteen years on from its acquisition of Southern Meats in Goulburn, NSW, WAMMCO reflects on a milestone that established a national footprint and delivered lasting value to its Western Australian member-producers.

This year marks 15 years since WAMMCO acquired Southern Meats in Goulburn, New South Wales — a milestone that opened the door to east-coast operations and, most importantly, delivered real value back to WA member-producers.

When WAMMCO took on the Goulburn plant in 2011, it gained a second processing facility comparable in size to Katanning and strategically located just two hours from Sydney’s ports. But the greatest benefit has always flowed to the co-operative’s members. By combining the purchasing power of two plants — across everything from packaging contracts to shipping — and marketing product across both operations, WAMMCO has driven significant financial returns straight back to the producers who own it.

Year-round supply to high-value markets, greater scale and stronger buying power all add up to one thing: better returns for the WA lamb and sheep producers at the heart of everything the co-operative does.

Today, WAMMCO International and Southern Meats together process up to 50,000 head of lamb and mutton every week across the two plants.
